Samir Kacimi
The Stairs of Trolar, 2020 Longlist

Samir Kacimi is an Algerian novelist, born in Algiers in 1974. He graduated in law and has numerous published novels. These include: A Permit for Lostness (2009), the first Algerian novel to deal with prison in Algeria, which won the Hashemi Saidani Award for the best first Algerian novel; A Great Day to Die, which reached the longlist of the 2010 International Prize for Arabic Fiction; Halabil (2010); In Love with a Barren Woman (2011), chapters of which were featured in English translation in Banipal magazine; The Dreamer (2012); and Love in a Declining Autumn (2014). The Stairs of Trolar (2019) was IPAF-longlisted in 2020. His work has been translated into French. He took part in the IPAF creative writing workshop (“Nadwa”) in 2013.
