Shortlist 2024
Dar Dawen

Gambling on the Honour of Lady Mitzi transports us back to the beginning of the last century in Egypt through the absorbing stories of four people who meet at a racecourse: a boy forced to become a jockey; an English lady who buys his horse, having seen in the young boy the image of her deceased son; a bookmaker; and a retired policeman who places bets to pay for his sick wife’s treatment. Triggered by the unexpected win of the boy’s horse, adventures and struggles follow as the characters’ interests and aspirations collide and emotions run high.
